Baby Christopher has not had it easy. Born five weeks premature on October 15th, the little guy has been in a fight for his life since the day he was born. After his delivery, Baby Christopher was taken straight to the NICU; being here so early, he’s been fighting the good fight, trying to give his parents hope that even though he’s got an uphill battle, he’ll prove to be tougher than anyone expected. He couldn’t breathe on his own, so baby Christopher was tied to machines, and all the while, doctors were scrambling to solve the problem of why Christopher’s heart was racing despite being just born.
Being five weeks early, Christopher’s lungs never developed correctly – he’d have to undergo surgery to restrict the blood flow to his lungs since his heart defect allowed five times the blood in his lungs than the rest of his body.
The surgery on Christopher’s lungs was only the first step. Surgery on his heart was next. In recovery, Christopher’s lungs took on an extra two liters of fluid. The little man has not had an easy fight. During this rollercoaster, his parents, Bobbi & Shaun have remained by his side, and not working. The bills are piling up, and soon the vultures known as debt collectors will be calling.
Taking care of Baby Christopher hasn’t been cheap, the bills are near a MILLION dollars – so the time to help out is now.
On March 15th, the people who love Christopher are rallying behind him. Clay Democratic Club (109. E Pendle St. South Bend) will be hosting the Benefit for Baby Christopher and will feature some of the best local bands in Michiana. Dark Trilogy, The Joe Feingold Project, and House Arrest will be on gracing the stage while there will be plenty of drinks on special, with food options all day long. There’s a $5 cover, and there will be a raffle.
Spend your day having a cocktail, or enjoying some music, or just drop a few dollars off to help a family in need. No one can blame parents who stick by a sick child at the expense of their careers. Now is the time to act, and now is the time to support your community and show a little boy you’re on his team.
